There is no pub in Bucks Mills. The nearest pubs are The Hoops Inn (2 miles walk), The Farmers Arms in Woolsery, and two pubs in Clovelly - The Red Lion and The New Inn.
There is a small shop at the top of the hill in Bucks Cross, selling useful food, drink and vegetables, newspapers and a post office.
The nearest sandy beaches are 20 minutes drive away at Westward Ho! and Instow (near Bideford) and Sandymouth (Bude). A bit further away are Croyde, Saunton Sands and Woolacombe beaches.
Hartland Point is about 8 miles drive - a fantastic dramatic spot to visit, with pub 'The Wreckers Retreat' and a shop selling toys, crafts and ice creams. It's fun swimming from the quay at high tide, or on a windy day seeing the waves crashing over the Quay. Sadly they don't allow dogs down the slipway to the beach.
The Milky Way is an award winning family activity park only a couple of miles from Bucks Mills, with water park in addition. The Big Sheep offers tremendous fun for the whole family - 10 minutes away from Bucks Mills. The Gnome Reserve is to be found 5 minutes away at local garden centre and general store 'The Merry Harriers' in Woolsery. They sell a huge range of useful homeware, toys, crafts, plants, practical materials, and clothing and there is a cafe/restaurant.

Yes there is a free allocated parking space for one car beside The Boathouse Cottage. Additional cars can be parked in the free carpark at the entrance to the village.
The cottage is best suited for couples seeking a quiet costal retreat, walkers exploring the South West Coast Path, guests with dogs, remote workers, guests looking for quiet and characterful self-catering accommodation by the sea in North Devon. Star gazers, surfers, artists, musicians, lovers, poets, wild swimmers, writers, broadband speed good enough to support zoom calls and streaming of TV and video .
Sorry, because of steps and a steep staircase to the bedroom the cottage is not suitable for wheelchairs and the disabled. The path to the beach is very steep.
